Carrying Out Sustainability Initiatives for Our E-Commerce Website

PREMIUM BANDAI announces SUSTAINABLE ACTION

PREMIUM BANDAI is an e-commerce website that offers merchandise for characters appearing in anime, comics, and other media, including Bandai Namco Group products exclusive to the site. After exploring if there was anything we could do to contribute to a more sustainable future and the SDGs through this site, in 2024 we announced SUSTAINABLE ACTION 2024–2030 and kicked off our efforts.

How can an e-commerce website contribute to sustainability?

Starting in 2022, the Bandai Namco Group began promoting sustainability initiatives based on its five material issues. In PREMIUM BANDAI’s business, we have been focusing on the material issue of “Provision of Appropriate Products and Services.”

However, we found that there must be other initiatives that PREMIUM BANDAI can tackle. For example, we felt that there were issues that we needed to consider, especially as an e-commerce website, such as recycling packaging materials and reducing CO2 emissions during logistics. Bandai Spirits’ E-Commerce Strategy Department, which operates PREMIUM BANDAI, and Bandai Logipal, which handles logistics, jointly established the Sustainability Project in 2023 to address sustainability issues in PREMIUM BANDAI’s business together.

Sustainability actions up to 2030

In 2024, the Sustainability Project announced SUSTAINABLE ACTION 2024–2030. Under SUSTAINABLE ACTION 2024–2030, PREMIUM BANDAI established four company-specific material issues adapted from those of the Bandai Namco Group’s materiality and linked them to concrete initiatives.

A table showing Premium Bandai's material issues and specific initiatives. Premium Bandai's material issues related to the Bandai Namco Group's material issue of ”Harmony with Nature” are the following three. The first is ”carbon neutrality and resource recycling in e-commerce logistics,” the second is ”achieving a circular economy through a built-to-order platform,” and the third is ”raising awareness of sustainability and providing services that contribute to sustainability.” Additionally, Premium Bandai’s material issue related to the Bandai Namco Group’s material issue of ”Safe & Responsible Products” is ”pursuing responsible marketing and an e-commerce site that is enjoyable for a diverse audience.” Premium Bandai has set these four material issues and is promoting specific initiatives for each.

For example, the “made-to-order platform” is a system in which only the quantity reserved during the order period is produced. This keeps inventory and waste to a minimum, so resources are not wasted. Through these efforts, we hope to convey to fans that shopping on PREMIUM BANDAI contributes to sustainable activities.

Web accessibility, which involves creating a website that is easy for anyone to view, is another important initiative. We are improving accessibility to ensure that we can provide equal service to fans around the world.

Future of the project

Contributing more to the SDGs and making a more sustainable e-commerce website

Going forward, we will focus more on making our logistics more eco-friendly, encouraging more people to purchase products that have received our proprietary Sustainable Product Certification, and promoting personal information protection and security measures to ensure safe and secure shopping. PREMIUM BANDAI will continue to engage in sustainable activities that lead to a fun and considerate future through premium shopping.
