Eco-Amusement Machines with environmentally conscious designs

Making arcade games more environmentally conscious by introducing “3R design” for all new machines

In 2024, Bandai Namco Experience revised its Environmentally Conscious Design Standards. We are now designing all arcade games with the “3Rs” in mind.

Project background

Leveraging experience with green procurement to engage in environmentally conscious designs for all new arcade games

Bandai Namco Experience Inc. has been working on green procurement since 2005. In 2012, we formulated the Eco-Amusement Product Requirements for arcade games sold domestically. Products that meet certain standards in seven criteria, including compliance with green procurement standards, energy conservation, and resource conservation, are certified as Eco-Amusement.

Meanwhile, there are growing expectations for the amusement industry to be more considerate of the environment. To further promote sustainable manufacturing, we wanted to further refine our product requirements.

The project today

Affixing the Eco-Amusement Label to machines with leading energy-saving performance

Bandai Namco Experience Inc. reviewed its previous product requirements and revamped them as environmentally conscious design standards in November 2024. Going forward, all arcade games that the company plans, develops, and produces will be designed with consideration for the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle).

The Eco Amusement Machine label is only affixed to arcade game machines that meet the environmentally conscious design standards that consider reduce, reuse, and recycle, and that are more energy-efficient than conventional machines by 50% or more.
Environmental standards for arcade games

In addition, products that meet the environmentally conscious design standards and have leading energy-saving performance are certified as Eco-Amusement Machines, with a special label affixed to the machine. The certification standard requires that the power consumption of a machine must be reduced by 50% or more compared to similar products sold after 2005. The crane game machine CLENA GRAND, which was certified as the first Eco-Amusement Machine, is already in operation in amusement facilities across Japan.

Future of the project

Reducing the environmental impacts of arcade games and further improving energy-saving performance

We hope that the highly visible Eco-Amusement Machine Label affixed to arcade games will encourage users to be considerate of the environment. Going forward, we will continue to manufacture environmentally conscious products based on the new environmentally conscious design standards and will also develop products with the aim of further improving energy-saving performance.
